Is there anything that client’s do that actually hinders the preparation for their wedding?
Wedding Planners Answers:
Yes, if they happen to know people in the country where they want to plan their wedding, whether these are friends or family, they tend to listen to the advice they are given from that side.
You would not believe the things I have heard:
- Boats that are only used for fishing have been advised to be used as a wedding boat (I would never be able to get the fish smell of it).
- Restaurants: a wedding planner looks at all the sides of the restaurant: the food, service, friendliness, price, views, cleanliness… family members sometimes do not mention the restaurant has a view over a parking lot! Or that it is 30 minutes away from town!
I experienced the same with photographers and florists… recommendations from family and friends are not always good. I have seen a bride burst into tears when she saw the table centre pieces prepared for her five star dinner setting…. and this was according to local family the BEST floral designer in town.
I cannot oblige the couple to use the suppliers I advise, they are the ones deciding… if they do not I can then only pray it will work out the way they hoped for.

I only tend to find that this happens on the actual day/days themselves.
If clients are very stressed or nervous (or the family are) they are better going to have lunch/relaxing/visiting guests than rushing around. If your planner tells you all is under control and that you should take some time out you should!
