Save the Date

'The earlier the better'

For a wedding abroad it is advisable and to give your guests as much advance notice as possible.

A save the date is exactly what the name suggests; it is a simple message telling your guests the date and destination of your marriage.

As your guests will need to travel abroad the more notice they are given the greater the likelihood they will be able to attend your wedding. Amongst other things it may allow them to plan holidays around your wedding or take a mini break. It will also help to ensure they get the best deals on flights and accommodation.

A save the date doesn’t need to be anything fancy. You can send out a traditional save the date card or something different like a fridge magnet but firing off a simple email may also do the trick to ensure your family and friends have the date and destination of your wedding abroad in writing.

Our wedding was in September and we sent out a save the date email to all our family and friends in January – giving them 8 months notice.

In the case of a wedding abroad it really is ‘the earlier the better’.

This is not only for your guests but also for you. Most of your guests prior to receiving their official wedding invitation will be able to give you an indication as to whether they can attend your wedding.

Having an idea of numbers early on will help enormously with your planning making things such as venue selection, supplier booking and finding appropriate guest accommodation a lot easier and simpler.
