When Should We Get Married Abroad?

Think carefully about when you would like to get married abroad and choose your date wisely.

We initially wanted to get married in France in August, however, we soon discovered that in August many businesses shut for annual holidays. Getting married in August would have made it more difficult to find suppliers to cater for our wedding and as a result we changed our wedding date to the beginning of September.

Get Married Abroad - Choose your Date Wisely

Once you have a date in mind it would be wise to research the following for your chosen destination.

Weather
Determine what the weather conditions will be like for your preferred date. For example is it cyclone or rainy season?

Local Wedding Season
What is the most popular time of year for the locals to get married? If this coincides with your preferred date will it affect venue or supplier availability? Will this make prices more expensive?

Local Holiday Season
Is there a local holiday season? Does this coincide with the preferred date of your wedding? Will businesses shut and suppliers take holidays? Is the location of your wedding at popular local holiday spot, will this affect availability of things such as accommodation?

Local Festivals
Check if there are any local festivals or events taking place. This may add to the allure of your destination and be an added bonus for your guests but will it affect accommodation and supplier availability?

Peak Holiday Season at Home
Does the date of your wedding fall in peak holiday season back home? Will this make it more expensive for you and your guests to travel to your wedding? Or will this make it easier for your guests to travel abroad, e.g. only being able to take time off during school holidays?
