A Perfect Cyprus Wedding - The Kefalos Hotel

by Paula & Garry
(Glasgow, Scotland)

The Perfect Day!

The Perfect Day!

After the longest engagement in history (12 years!) we were recently married at Kefalos Beach Village, Paphos, Cyprus.

We wanted a wedding abroad and had looked at various places over the past few years but we decided Cyprus because we wanted to have a Catholic Blessing (in addition to the legal/civil ceremony) and Cyprus is one of the few places abroad that you can have this. Also, we had been to Cyprus before for a holiday and really enjoyed it so we knew what to expect in terms of the resort in general.

We chose the Kefalos complex firstly because of its location and the fact that it is built on the beach. You can see from the website that its setting is just perfect for a summer holiday as not only do you have your accommodation, bars, restaurants and swimming pools on your doorstep but also the beach.

In addition, it is also right in the middle of Paphos with plenty of bars & restaurants within short walking distance but if you want to walk a bit further (or jump in a bus or taxi) you have the beautiful Coral Beach in one direction and the bustling shops, café bars and exciting nightlife at the harbour in the other direction. You really do get the best of both worlds at the Kefalos but if you don't want to go anywhere, you do not need to, they have it all!

Back to the wedding, the next factor in our decision - and this was a major one - was that we could have our whole wedding i.e. the civil ceremony, chapel blessing and reception all in the one place so once our guests arrived they were there for the day. Of course you do not have to do this if you wish to go to the Town Hall or a Church for your wedding but for us we just loved the idea of everyone being in the one place for the whole day and indeed it worked out just perfectly.

I (the bride) arranged everything myself in conjunction with the Public Relations Manager (Elena) at the Kefalos. She was absolutely wonderful and if there was something that she did not know the answer to straight away, she would go and find out, she was absolutely amazing.

We arranged our day so that it kicked off at 2pm with our civil ceremony (the legal bit) in the conservatory which is just off the main reception which is beautifully decorated and it is well air conditioned and so lovely and cool. It also overlooks the pools and beach so it is such a nice setting. The red carpet was laid out for me to walk in through the main doors and into the conservatory where my guests were waiting. We had the ceremony there and because our Chapel Blessing didn't take place until 4pm we had arranged for canapés, champagne and punch for all of our guests so we then did some eating, drinking, chatting and photos before heading down to the small Chapel (within the Kefalos grounds) where we had our Catholic ceremony.

After this we had some more photos and moved along to the pool bar where our table for our 25 guests was perfectly laid out but as we had some time before our evening meal (we chose the Cyprus buffet) we and our guests relaxed on the sea front and sipped champagne and cocktails until it was time for the food to be served. This for me was just idyllic and so relaxing and it was one of the nicest parts of the day.

Then onto the reception and after what was a wonderful buffet dinner and wine we had some speeches, some people had a dip in the sea and we finished the evening with music and dancing at the entertainment stage which is two minutes walk from where we had our meal. It was an altogether perfect day and to be honest, I want to do it again!

Thanks to everyone at the Kefalos for what was the most memorable day of our lives and indeed we and all of our family not only enjoyed the wedding day but the full fortnight's holiday. We will be back!
